Do you have a protocol for post-op NICU oxtubations? Hi, I'm Cecilia Jigena from Cincinnati Children's Hospital, and I think this is an article that you should know about. This is a quality improvement project from a single center at Rochester, New York. Their aim was to reduce the unplanned intubations post-operatively in the NICU. For that, they implemented a quality improvement campaign that included an extubation readiness checklist and a pain management guideline. That aim to reduce the opiate use. After implementing these, they reduced the implant intubations by 76%, as well as they decrease the opiate use in patients postoperatively. So it seems that having a protocol can benefit our patients. Let us know what you think and stay tuned for more articles that you should know about.
