Topic Overview
Key Takeaways
- Primary posterior tracheopexy at EA repair reduced respiratory infections requiring hospitalization in the first year of life.
- Patients receiving concurrent tracheopexy showed improved weight-for-age Z-scores compared to EA repair alone.
- Retrospective two-center study (n=63): 21 patients underwent primary tracheopexy with EA repair.
- Consider primary posterior tracheopexy in select EA patients to reduce respiratory morbidity and optimize growth outcomes.

Do you do primary posterior trachyopexy for esophageal atricia? Hi, I'm Cecilia Jigena from Cincinnati Children's Hospital, and I think this is an article that you should know about. This is a retrospective study done in two institutions that wanted to see the outcomes of primary posterior trachypexy and the esophageal atricia repair. They had 63 patients. 21 underwent a posterior trachypaxy at the same time of the esophyte electrical repair. And what they found is that those patients had less respiratory infections that require hospitalization, and improved weight to H Z scores in the first year of life. So it seems that some patients may require posterior trachyppy after all, at the moment of the esophageal atricia repair. Let us know what you think and stay tuned for more articles that you should know about.
